Taylor’s towering blast helps Bandits secure third straight win

ROSEMONT — Nadia Taylor delivered a three-run homer, her fifth of the season, as the Bandits erased an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Beijing Shougang Eagles by a score of 5-2 Tuesday afternoon at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.

Taylor second-inning shot, part of a five-run frame, backed a strong combined effort in the circle from right-handers Lacey Waldrop and Shelby Turnier.

Waldrop (W, 2-0), in just her second start of the season, scattered five hits across four innings of work and surrendered two runs. She struck out five in the game.

Turnier, meanwhile, continued to excel out of the bullpen. The former Central Florida standout sealed the win after she tossed the final three innings, allowing one hit while striking out three. Turnier lowered her ERA to a team-best 0.19 and collected her third save of the campaign.

Beijing rookie Emily Watson (L, 1-2) suffered the loss after the right-hander allowed three runs on four hits while working in the second inning. Former Bandits southpaw Angel Bunner completed the final five innings for the Eagles and allowed two runs while fanning six.

The Eagles briefly took a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame after an RBI groundout from Wang Xiaoqing and a run-scoring single off the bat of Liu Mengmeng before Taylor’s towering shot put the Bandits in front for good.

Kristyn Sandberg’s RBI triple and an RBI groundout from Sammy Marshall extended the Bandits’ lead to three later in the second.

The Bandits and Eagles will continue their six-game stretch with an 11 a.m. matchup Wednesday at Parkway Bank Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast via Eleven Sports.
