Gano garners Rookie of the Week honors
ROSEMONT — Chicago Bandits infielder/catcher Courtney Gano earned Rookie of the Week honors after an impressive four-game stretch to open the 2018 season, league officials announced Wednesday.
Gano, who burst onto the scene with eight hits in her first first games, paces the league with a .615 clip at the plate. She also ranks second in on-base percentage (.600), third in the NPF in runs scored (seven) and fourth in slugging percentage (.923).
The former Washington standout made 18 starts for Softball Club Forlì in the Italian Softball League during the 2017 campaign before signing a one-year deal with the Bandits on Sept. 27, 2017.
Gano’s efforts at the plate guided the Bandits to a season-opening sweep of the Cleveland Comets. The West Covina, California, product chipped in six RBI and impacted the series on both sides of the plate. In addition to her excellent debut on the offensive end, Gano made appearances at shortstop and behind the plate. She ranks third on the team in putouts (15) and assists (three).
The Bandits will be back in action with a 7:05 p.m. CST first pitch against the Aussie Spirit on Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field in Hutchinson, Kansas. For more information or to purchase tickets to any upcoming home game during the 2018 season, please visit chicagobandits.com
