Bandits, Svekis Agree to One-Year Contract Extension
ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Chicago Bandits and catcher Gwen Svekis have reached an agreement on a 1-year contract extension, team officials announced Wednesday afternoon.
Svekis dominated both at and behind the plate during the 2019 season. In 40 games played, she posted 7 home runs and 24 RBI, good for a .274 batting average. Behind the plate, she had 149 put-outs on 160 chances, and had a part in 4 double plays.
“Gwen was a force to be reckoned with last summer and we couldn’t be happier to see more of that next season,” said General Manager Toni Calmeyn. “She’s got the attitude this ball club needs, both on and off the field. We’re excited to have more of that next summer.”
Because of her accomplishments on the field, Svekis was one of eight Bandits to earn All-NPF honors.
“I’m humbled and eager to continue my career as a Bandit,” Svekis said in a statement. “I’m excited about the future of fastpitch in the United States and love being a part of the best professional organization in the country!”
When she’s not with the Bandits, Svekis works as the Graduate Student Manager for the Indiana University Hoosiers softball team. She can also be found on social media doing the occasional headstand, flipping perfect pancakes, and hanging out with her cat, Zeus.
