Bandits sign Florida two-way star Ocasio to three-year deal

ROSEMONT — The Chicago Bandits have signed standout pitcher and utility player Aleshia Ocasio to a three-year deal, team officials announced Monday afternoon.

Ocasio, drafted 10th overall in the second round of the 2018 NPF Draft out of Florida, ranks among the top 10 in 10 different career marks for the Gators, including both pitching and offensive categories.

A two-time All-American and four-time All-SEC selection, Ocasio cemented herself in the record books at Florida and captured the national championship with the Gators during the 2015 season.

“We are excited to add a player of Aleshia’s caliber to our roster,” Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. “She’s displayed her talent on both sides of the ball and we’re looking forward to seeing her two-way play translate to the professional level.”

During the 2018 season, Ocasio amassed a 23-7 mark in the circle with a 1.45 ERA to build off a stellar junior campaign in which she went 20-1 with a 0.70 ERA. The St. Cloud, Florida, product also recorded five home runs, drove in 36 runs and went 5-for-5 in stolen bases.

In addition to her career at Florida, Ocasio has enjoyed a taste of the international softball scene, as well. She suited up for the Puerto Rican national club in 2015 and helped guide the team to a bronze medal at the Pan American Games.

Ocasio becomes the third player from Florida to play for Bandits, joining Kristen Butler (2012-14) and Taylore Fuller (2017).
