Bandits sign draftee Scroggins to two-year deal
ROSEMONT — The Chicago Bandits have signed outfielder Jessie Scroggins to a two-year contract, team officials announced Friday morning.
Scroggins, a third-round pick in the 2018 NPF Draft out of Baylor, concluded her senior campaign in Waco, Texas, with a .461 batting average to rank fifth in the NCAA.
“We are excited to add a player of Jessie’s caliber to our outfield core,” Bandits general manager Toni Calmeyn said. “She excelled in both the offensive and defensive aspects of the game at Baylor and we look forward to seeing her translate her success to the professional level.”
Scroggins earned All-Big 12 First Team distinction in consecutive seasons (2017-18) and added the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year award to her resume in 2017. Her single-season mark of 24 multi-hit games as a junior ranks fifth all-time in program history.
Scroggins, a resident of Lakewood, California, helped guide the Bears to a regional championship matchup against nationally seeded Texas A&M in the 2018 NCAA Tournament before falling to the Aggies. During Baylor’s run in the postseason, the lefty batted an astounding .600 across three games with a pair of doubles and four RBI.
The four-time Cowles Cup champion Chicago Bandits will be back at Parkway Bank Sports Complex for the 2018 season. Opening day is set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch May 31 against the Cleveland Comets.
