Bandits dominate in doubleheader to conclude series against Cleveland

ROSEMONT, III. – The Chicago Bandits (5-0) dominate doubleheader games on Sunday (Jun. 9) against the Cleveland Comets. Game 1 concluded with a score of 6-1, while the Bandits also took care of game 2, 10-3.

Bandits 6, Comets 1

Kristyn Sandberg was named “Player of the Game” after drilling a 3-run double to put the Bandits on the board in the top of the third. Sandberg also brought in the Bandits fourth run after a base hit securing the lead at 4-0 in the fifth.

Abbey Cheek managed to steal home after a passed ball advancing the mark to 5-0. The Comets quickly got out of the inning with bases-loaded to stop the runs at five.

Cleveland looked to make a comeback right away as Lillian Piper punctured a base hit up the middle to cut the Bandits lead to 5-1. Haylie Wagner checked in the circle for Ally Carda to end the inning.

Jessie Scroggins started the 6th inning off with a single followed by a triple to left center from Brenna Moss that brought in the Bandits final run of the game.

Bandits 10, Comets 3

The Bandits wasted no time to get runs on the board in the first. With runners on first and third, Amanda Chidester drove one to right when Carly Thomas made a diving catch which allowed Moss to tag up at home. Sandberg hit in Hannah Flippen getting an early 2-0 advantage.

Bottom of the second, Chelsea Gonzales scored on a fielder’s choice that brought the game to a one-run difference.

Sandberg led the fourth inning off with her first solo home run of the season where she was again named “Player of the Game” after going 4-for-4 in game 2.

Top of the fifth, Moss landed a base hit followed by a two-run homer by Flippen to grow the Bandits lead to 5-1. Katie Reed pierced her first NPF hit down to right-center that got in Sandberg for another run.

Bases loaded, Sandberg marked her fourth RBI of the game bringing in Scroggins and Moss for 8-1 in the 6th. Reed lined one out to center with a sacrifice fly for Chidester to cross the plate.

Bandits tried closing out the sixth with an 8 run lead but committed 3 straight errors allowing two runs to score with two outs. Paige Lowary was able to get the final strikeout to end the inning.

In the top of the 7th, Aleshia Ocasio laid a bunt down where she was called safe at first, bringing Moss home for the Bandits last run of the game.

The Bandits concluded their series against the Cleveland Comets with a perfect 5-0 mark. The Black and Orange will return to Parkway Bank Sports Complex on Wednesday (Jun. 12) for a chance to beat rivals USSSA Pride.
