Bandits blank Beijing, win second straight
ROSEMONT — Haylie Wagner cruised to her third victory of the season as the Chicago Bandits rolled to an 8-0 win over the Beijing Shougang Eagles on Monday night at Parkway Bank Sports Complex.
Wagner collected her third win of the 2018 campaign after she breezed through the first five frames on just 46 pitches. The southpaw surrendered one hit and faced the minimum thanks to a smooth 4-3 double play turned by former Michigan teammate Abby Ramirez.
The two former Wolverines served the maize-and-blue well as the Bandits celebrated College Spirit Night at the ballpark. Players wore collegiate gear during warmups to celebrate the promotion.
Wagner’s effort in the circle was matched by a strong showcase at the plate. The Bandits recorded a 12-hit attack from eight different players. Veteran outfielder Sammy Marshall paced the offense with a trio of base knocks.
Nadia Taylor delivered a two-out, two-run single to center in the opening frame to put the Bandits ahead early and the bats did not slow down in the slightest. The Bandits scored runs in five of their six innings at the plate, including additional RBI from Brenna Moss (1-for-2, 2 RBI), Megan Blank (1-for-1, 3B, RBI), DJ Sanders (2-for-4, RBI) and Emily Crane (2-for-3, 2 RBI).
Beijing right-hander Allie Walljasper suffered the loss after she allowed three runs (all earned) in three innings of work. The former LSU standout and No. 2 pick in the 2018 NPF Draft was saddled with her fourth loss.
Fellow rookie right-hander Aleshia Ocasio sealed the win in relief for the Bandits. She did not allow a run and scattered a pair of hits in two innings.
The Bandits (22-7) and Eagles (11-24) will continue their six-game set at with an 11 a.m. first pitch Tuesday at Parkway Bank Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast via Eleven Sports.
