Chicago Bandits Internships

The Chicago Bandits, a women’s professional fastpitch team located in Rosemont, Ill., are looking for several well rounded, hard working interns interested in getting their careers started in the sports industry. Each internship opportunity is unpaid but does have the ability to turn into a paid position based on the intern’s performance and revenue generating efforts. College credit is offered for all internship positions.

Ticket Sales & Operations
Interns will be trained in Bandits ticketing system and sales tactics. Responsible for ticket sales in office and on game days, work closely with group coordinators for large organizations in the community including, but not limited to softball and baseball organizations, youth groups, businesses, chamber of commerce, etc., schedule group events from start to finish including tickets and amenities, assist in individual and season ticket sales, responsible for specific sales-driven projects, assisting with ticket mailings and promotions, other special projects and administrative duties as assigned, assigned game night responsibilities.

Public Relations
Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with game day responsibilities including writing, preparation and distribution of game notes and program inserts press box and room set-up and maintenance pre, during and post-game, distributing media credentials pregame, distribution of statistics and other materials, assisting media with any needs that arise, post-game web update, writing of game stories for program and web, proofreading of all written material, including press releases, game programs, game notes, web materials, etc., maintenance of clip file and distribution of daily clips to Bandits management and staff, maintenance of player and team files, accompany players, mascot and/or dancers to appearances (if necessary), attend public events and represent company (It is mandatory for all interns, regardless of department, to appear at events as mascot), general office duties and other duties as assigned by Director of Public Relations and Community Relations.

Availability: Winter, Spring, Summer

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
• HTML and/or graphics knowledge very helpful but not required
• Journalism, Sport Management, Public Relations, Communications or related major preferred
• Desire to work in public relations in professional sports or in sports media
• Strong writing skills
• Strong knowledge and/or love of baseball/softball
• Ability to work at a fast pace
• Strong sense of discretion and professional attitude
• Flexible schedule including game nights, some days and weekends, including non-game days

Responsibilities include assisting team photogapher with game day assisgnments including but not limited to team photo day, sponsorship responsibilities and fan interaction, organizing game day photos in database, design posters for marketing purposes, assist with posting photos to social media outlets

  • Ability to attend all home games during the 2015 season. Additional hours required pre & post game as well as general office days when team is on the road

Tournament Liaison
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: create tournament schedules and brackets in advance of the tournament, work on tournament scheduling and rescheduling, prepare pre-tournament materials for coaches and players, conduct coaches meeting before each tournament to cover ground rules and team expectations, assist PR director with maintaining the team website with tournament results and stories, manage tournament website with teams, dates, events, etc.

Availability: Spring, Summer 

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to work at a fast pace
• Strong presence in stressful work environments
• Must be able to handle difficult situations on the fly with little or no guidance

Merchandise Sales
Opportunity for creative implementation of new apparel ideas and marketing tools, responsible for inventory pre and post games, report to merchandise coordinator for all bulk order needs, responsible for filling online internet order and mailing, responsible for set up and take down of merchandise areas on game night, responsible for cash and credit card sales; will be required to report all sales at the end of each home game and home stand as well as online sales throughout. Required to work in office on an occasional basis and all game days.

Availability: Summer 

Special Events Interns 
Interns will be responsible for planning, organizing and coordinating the golf outing, bowling event, End of Season Banquet and other special events throughout the year. Everything from signing up participants to getting sponsors for the events will be required of these interns. We are a women’s professional softball team, however these are great non-traditional events for us that add some much needed revenue in a different way. 

Availability: Spring, Summer 

Game and Tournament Operation Interns
Interns will be responsible for acting as team liaison to youth teams participating in all youth tournaments, acting as customer service representative during all Chicago Bandits home games, working different areas at The Ballpark at Rosemont during Chicago Bandits home games, assisting ticket department during games, acting as usher to help people find seats, and assisting merchandise department during games to ensure friendly shopping atmosphere for all customers in the ballpark. * This position is mostly a nights and weekends position with extended work on Youth Tournament weekends. Availability: Spring, Summer 

Club House Intern 
Interns will be responsible for maintenance and cleanliness of the team clubhouse, responsible for ensuring player uniforms are ready and organized for each game, responsible for preparing clubhouse food pre and post game, including stocking water coolers, fridge, etc., and responsible for assisting players in a concierge type roll. 

Availability: Summer
